Virtual Realiteens is a new indie show by StudioNX, previously known for the Emmy award winning Niko and the sword of light. The show follows a quartet of wannabee 80s nerds in the modern day as they hijack their schools VR lab to become real videogame heroes in real life. The show seemingly slots in well after Stranger Things left a lot of people yearning for 80s shows.
The show is created by Adam Jeffcoat, Jim Bryson, and Matthew Lyon on StudioNX. It’s produced by Allissoon Lockhart who previously worked on Knights of Guinevere and is set to be animated by studio Toon City in Vancouver.
Big names on Virtual Realiteens
Virtual Realiteens features an all star cast for the online crowd. Although the current casting information is limited we know that the main character, Bert Baxter, will be played by Arin Hanson (Egoraptor), known for his work on Game Grumps and more recently his voicework in Gameoverse and The Amazing Digital Circus. Bert is a corpulent young boy seemingly obsessed with the idea of being an 80s hero. Bert is the archetypal nerd, he wears a power glove on his arm and speaks with a lisp.
Other cast members of note are Seán William McLoughlin, also known as Jack Septiceye, who will be playing Berts mentally vacant friend Gregory Grape, or just Greg for short. He’s a shy pal who panics at the wrong times. Elsie Lovelock known as the voice of Uzi from Murderbots as well as Miss Information from Gameoverse also joins the production although her role is not yet clear. she seems to be playing one of greg and berts friends, either the ginger Tammy, or the short antihero Angela.
In the virtual world the 4 characters become different digital versions of themselves. Bert becomes a barbarian, Greg a Pikachu knockoff, Tammy a unicorn girl, and Angela becomes a burning skeleton.
Virtual Realiteens will feature music by the great Grant Kirkhope known for making the soundtrack behind DK64, Golden eye, and as of late Gameoverse.
