Dogbad, jom and poolarbear having a talkshow

Interview with Dogbad and Jom

Q. Hi, today I’m talking with Jom and his friend, Dogbad. Would you like to introduce yourselves

J: Hi, Ivar! I am Jom, I am an animatr-

DB: HI I am Douglas Badvanavich, but my brother and dad call me Dogbad!

Q. The first Dogbad short, Dogbad and Elmore: Icecream Heaven was released online in June 2026. Would you like to tell me a bit about it?

J: Ah, yes, it was my thesis film during my final year at SVA, I had been thinking about my friend Dogbad for a while, about a year and some change, before starting production.

DB: I met the ice cream man in that one šŸ˜€

Q. While speaking of ice cream, Dogbad you are eating a lot of chocolate ice cream in that film, isn’t that usually bad for dogs?

DB: WHAT! Since when is ice cream bad for dogs??? I’ve been eating it my whole life… ouuuhhh… Elmore always tells me to stop… I thought it was just because he was jealous of me…

J: Hahah, he’s just a funny dogman, I think he has like a Scooby Doo stomach?

Q. Speaking of Elmore. What is your relationship? Is he also a dog?

DB: Oh, Elmore? Idk what he is, he’s told people he’s a horse his whole life, but I don’t think he is… He looks more like a big mouse man, maybe a hippo of some sort?

J: Dogbad has no idea… I drew Elmore to be a horse, and named him after Elmer’s glue… a little bit of a morbid joke on my part.

Q. I see, do you do anything do outside of Ice cream eating, Dogbad?

DB: TONS of stuff; Poptarts, ham and cheese sandwiches, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, I LOVE cheeseburgers, french fries, funnel cake, roast beef sandwiches, werthers candy, fuji apple redbull, hoagies, meatball subs, cheesteaks, corn, doritos, cool ranch doritos, doritos taco from tacobell, I like cookes, ummmm, lamb, liver, onions, grapes are good, ummmm… man I like carrots too they’re pretty good. I don’t know… there is probably more stuff that I eat!

Q. As you should. Jom, when making Dogbad what inspiration were you mainly looking towards?

J: Ah! There are so many! In terms of big artists, Mike Judge’s “King of the Hill” was really on my mind while writing and animating. Outside of that, my production timeline and work ethic was really inspired by Erim Xolo, he is a really good example of an animator who knows what’s up. I am really grateful that I was able to sorta follow his example.
Aaron Long’s “Sublo and Tangy Mustard” was also a HUGE inspo to me. Aaron ended up advising me on my thesis, its funny. I was inspired to reach out to Aaron by Xolo as well hahah.

DB: Who is Xolo?

Q. Love sublo. How do you feel about Dogbads first outing? Are you happy with the end results?

J: I am happy with it, I defiantly am. I think for further outings I am looking for ways to make production pipe line faster, I am thinking about making Dogbad and Elmore comics as well. Simon Hanselmanns, “Megg and Mogg” comics are a very large source of inspiration to me at the moment, and I find myself wanting to tell more stories. “Crisis Zone” is really a great book.

DB: Really? You’re happy with that horrible adventure I had!! you just tortured me for 3 minutes!! I am not happy with my first “outing” at ALL. It sucked!!! There’s like no story and I barley freaking talk in it! The star of the show has like 3 – 4 lines?? What’s the deal with that?

J: Uhh…

J: Sorry?

Q. When you completed the film what were your plans as it came to distrobution? Was youtube the first answer or did you send it to festivals? Why?

J: The plan was always to put it online. There are a lot of great films that just sit in the pockets of their creators, I think that’s a shame! That being said, “Dogbad and Elmore: Ice Cream Heaven” was at the Short Short Fest 2026, in PA. SVA is also submitting it for festival entry as well, but that isn’t very important to me personally.

DB: “Not very important to you personally”? You’re such a duchebag Jom, Jesus Christ… Well it’s important to me!

J: DOGBAD! Relax!! We’re giving an interview right now!! Watch your language!!

DB: Sorry mother… You’re such a D-BAG Jom, Jesus Christ…

J:…

Q. How do you feel about the reception of Dogbad and Elmore?

Both: We are overjoyed!

DB: Jinx you owe me a soda!

J: …

J: Anyway, yeah we are VERY happy. It has been such an honor to receive praise from all the wonderful audience members! To the point where I almost wish people would be more critical of it hahah. I know that sounds pretty bass aquward, but I really enjoy hearing peoples reaction to what I’ve made. NewGrounds is really good at giving that more honest feedback. So the fact it did well on that website means a lot to me.

Q. Who else helped out with the short and what did they do?

J: I had a lot of help! For one, Dogbad was very cooperative during production, we worked very hard developing his character before it was time to start.

Outside of him, Beza Solomon, voiced Elmore. She was a constant help and sounding board during the time I was working. Rude Jack, voiced the Ice Cream Man as well, he ended up doing the voice for free out of the kindness of his heart! Which I really appreciate!

Xolo did some very impressive and fun animation for the scene where Dogbad is thinking about his plan to get the ice cream. I am very thankful that he lent his talents to my film.

I also had help from everyone I met at SVA as well. Some big people are; Sachio Cook (Advisor), Frank Gresham (Advisor), Neveah Williams (Friend), and so many more… I could be here all day long listing people who helped me haha.

DB: Dogbad is scrolling through instagram reels

Q. Where can people find and support you online?

J: My YouTube is the best place to see my cartoons. I post pretty frequently on Instagram as well, and I try to answer every DM I receive! I have a website as well, johnterembula.com
Now in terms of financial support, my vgen page is the best way to help out. I love drawing for other people! (especially when I’m getting paid hahaha)

DB: Now if you want to support me! DRAW ME AND POST IT ONLINE WITH #DOGBAD

J: hahah silly Dogbad, I would really prefer you commission me and follow me on YouTube.

DB: SHUT UP MEAT-THING, DRAW!!! DRAW FOR ME!!!

J: Hahah he’s quite the funny dog-man isn’t he?

Q. Haha, any last thoughts before we end this interview? Anything coming up?

J: Well, I just finished work on my first ever Web-Comic, “Cat and Dog in the World of Man”, which can be found posted on my Instagram or my TikTok page.
Outside of that, I’ve been slowly chipping away at a new Dogbad and Elmore script. In this one they meet the Mayor of New York City!!

DB: Wait… Catgood is the Ma-

J: SHHHHHHH! Don’t spoil it Dogbad!!!

J: Ahem… Thank you for having me Mr. 2D! Now what do we say?

DB: I love you?

J: uhhh… sure dude, I guess that works.

J: Thanks again for dealing with me and… him… hahah, it was a lot of fun chatting with you!

Q. Fun time chatting with you too!
